Each sculpture is the result of many weeks of thought, experimentation and making. Whether you are purchasing your first piece of contemporary glass or adding to an established collection, I hope the information below answers some of your questions and gives you confidence in the process.

How each sculpture is made

Every cast glass artwork begins with an idea, often inspired by conversations, or observations during time away from the studio. From there I develop drawings and models before creating the final wax model for casting.

A refractory kiln mould is made and the glass is cast and then the mould and glass slowly cools over many weeks to relieve internal stresses. Once removed from the mould, each piece is carefully ground, polished and finished by hand. This slow process allows the unique qualities of light, colour and form to emerge.

Original works

My cast glass sculptures are original works of art.

Some pieces are completely unique, while others may be created as part of a carefully considered limited edition. Where an artwork is part of an edition, the edition size is clearly stated. Once an edition of any one colour combination is complete, no further works will be produced from that mould.

Because every cast and every hand-finishing process is slightly different, each sculpture possesses its own individual character.

Authenticity

Every unique sculpture is signed, coded and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, recording the title, date, edition (where applicable) and confirming that the work has been created in my Cambridge, New Zealand studio.

Each glass artwork from a unlimited series is also signed with an individual code.

Commissions

I welcome enquiries for commissioned work.

Many collectors enjoy collaborating on a sculpture created specifically for a particular space or to mark a significant occasion. Commissions begin with a conversation about scale, location and the ideas you would like the work to express.

Installation

Glass responds beautifully to changing natural light, and I am happy to offer guidance on the best placement for your sculpture.

Whether displayed on a pedestal, shelf or cabinet, careful positioning will allow the work to reveal different qualities throughout the day.

I like to make most of my glass sculptures to suit natural light but lighting can enhance a display for night-time viewing. I am happy to offer recommendations around this.

Caring for your glass sculpture

Cast glass is a durable material that requires very little maintenance.

A soft microfibre cloth and warm water is usually all that is needed to remove dust. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, and handle sculptures with care when moving them.

Detailed care instructions are provided with every purchase.

Shipping worldwide

My work is collected in New Zealand and internationally.

Each medium to large sculpture is professionally packed using custom protective materials to ensure it arrives safely. I work with experienced art shippers and can arrange fully insured delivery throughout New Zealand and overseas.

Timeframes

Available sculptures are normally ready for dispatch within a few working days.

Commissioned works require additional time depending on their scale and complexity. As each sculpture is individually made, I will provide an estimated completion schedule before work begins and keep you informed throughout the process.

Visiting the studio

Visitors are welcome by appointment.

If you are travelling through the Waikato, I would be delighted to welcome you to my Cambridge studio, where you can experience the sculptures in natural light and learn more about the processes behind their creation.

Can I see how a sculpture will look in my home?

If you send me a photograph of the intended location, I can often provide guidance on scale and placement, and in most cases create a simple digital mock-up to help you visualise the piece in your space.

Can I try the artwork in my home?

Yes. I offer an ‘on approval’ service. If you are not happy with the glass sculpture in your space, and return it within 7 days (in original condition and packaging) you will receive a full refund
